This summer (2013) we decided to take our charity swim to a new extreme and swim the entire length of the River Medway! 70 MILES! 3 times the Channel!
Bliss and Mencap are charities very close to our hearts with many of our members receiving support from these invaluable charities. Every level of swimmer attempted this feet, from our little Bubblers in the 5m pool to our Elite seniors in the fitness pool. The children worked so hard they actually swam 90 MILES instead of 70!!! Lots of local businesses, friends and family sponsored us, raising a huge £1000 for Mencap and an incredible £1500 for BLISS with our little star James Luckhurst raising £1385 all by himself! We presented Bliss with their money this January and we are just waiting to organise a representative from Mencap to visit and collect their share (pictures to follow).
The vital care that babies receive after birth can have a profound impact on the rest of their lives. For families struggling to cope, this will be one of the most difficult, emotional and stressful times of their lives.Bliss is the UK charity working to provide the best possible care and support for all premature and sick babies and their families.Bliss is there to provide advice and support over the phone, through our message-board, our network of local counsellors and our locally-based groups.
MENCAP JUNIOR GATEWAY MAIDSTONE
Maidstone Junior Gateway Club is based in Cobtree Hall, Mote Park. They meet each Saturday morning and provide lots of activities for young people aged from 5-16 years, with various special needs and disabilities. As well as providing a couple of hours of fun for us they also give some valuable respite to our families.
Like Bubbles Swim Club, Junior Gateway have lots of young volunteers who give up their time to support club members with their play, social interaction and care.
