DSISO British Nationals 2013

On Saturday 20th July, Rob Smith & Rebecca Kidd from the senior team, together with coach Kate traveled to High Wycombe to the Down Syndrome International Swimming Organization British National Championships. Both Rob and Beckie have been training extremely hard for months in preparation and absolutely smashed it!

Both competing for their first time, and with Rob forgetting to submit his times (oops!) they were placed in the lower heats. After a rocky start with two DQs for technique they quickly got their act together and started bringing the medals in!

Rob started with a BRONZE for 200m Freestyle in 4:47.89 (PB), quickly followed by a GOLD for 100m Freestyle in 2:17.46 (PB)!

Beckie then picked up the pace and was awarded a SILVER for 400m Freestyle in 11:19.63 (PB) before Rob decided to collect all the colours, gaining a SILVER for HIS 400m Freestyle in 8:25.25 (PB)!

Rob finished the morning session but stayed to cheer Beckie on with her two remaining races; 50m and 25m Freestyle. This is when Beckie decided to blow us all away!

Beckie was obviously spured on by Rob's medal success as she went on to win both races in INCREDIBLE time swims, so fast in fact that she was given SPEEDING TICKETS!!! This means that she out-swam the 'honesty rule' for submission times so couldn't be awarded with a medal. Next time she competes she will be in the higher heats with PBs of 1:05.94 for 50m and 31.86 for 25m!

All their hard work really paid off and they are now looking to compete at the European Champs in PORTUGAL!
